Outreach Concert Tours

Note: Due to Covid-19, package fees will see an increase in hotel and meal costs. In the event of a significant rise in fuel, bus & ferry costs, there will be an additional surcharge. You will be informed well in advance of any such change.

Choirs wishing to extend their stay and explore the beauties of the area may take part in the Kathaumixw Outreach Concert Tours program, subject to availability. The program provides choirs an opportunity to visit other parts of the province and share their music with other communities. The tour program takes place the week following the festival. Tours are customized to the choirs needs and can vary from 3 to 6 days.

Tour arrangements include:

~ concert promotion
~ venue bookings and management
~ transportation
~ accommodation and some meals
~ tour hosts
~ sightseeing excursions

Up to 12 choirs can tour each festival year.

Choirs interested in participating in the Concert Tour Program should indicate as such on the application form.

Tour Regions include:

Vancouver Island and the city Victoria; the adjoining Lower Mainland and the city of Vancouver; the mountain village of Whistler; and the interior Okanagan Valley. All of these areas have been selected to ensure a lasting experience and include some free time spent in Vancouver or Victoria. Well-equipped, comfortable highway coaches transport choirs from one location to another. Because of Powell River’s location, travel includes two ferry trips through scenic coastal waterways.

Tour Length:

The concert tours are individualized to choirs desires and are usually scheduled for six days. Shorter concert tours of three to five days may also be arranged. Powell River volunteer guides accompany all tours.

Accommodation:

Overseas choirs are billeted in private homes and North American choirs stay in hotels or hostels. First preference for billeting is given to overseas choirs. North American choirs should assume they will be accommodated in hotels. Prices will be adjusted in the event a North American choir is billeted. Overseas choirs will be billeted in communities where billeting is available. In communities where billeting is not available you will be accommodated in hotels at your expense.

Tour Costs: (as of 2018)

The program is designed at a reasonable cost for choirs. The costs are per person and include: highway coach, ferries, concert venues, promotion, volunteer tour hosts, tour administration, and all taxes and gratuities. Costs are based on a 47-passenger coach per tour. There may be extra costs for larger choirs requiring supplementary transport or choirs of less than 25 persons. Special commercial attractions that require entrance fees must be paid by participating choirs.

Six Day Tours

Option #1 Home stays usually with breakfast and dinner (for overseas choirs only) - $550 CAD
Option #2 Hotels/Motels (double occupancy) with breakfast and dinner - $1300 CAD
Option #3 Hotels/Motels (children - four to a room) with breakfast and dinner - $1000 CAD
* Adults travelling with a home stay choir but preferring hotel stays pay the $1300 CAD rate.

Five Day Tours

Option #1 Home stays usually with breakfast and dinner (for overseas choirs only) - $475 CAD    
Option #2 Hotels/Motels (double occupancy) with breakfast and dinner - $1120 CAD
Option #3 Hotels/Motels (children - four to a room) with breakfast and dinner - $860 CAD
* Adults travelling with a home stay choir but preferring hotel stays pay the $1120 CAD rate.

Four Day Tours

Option #1 Home stays usually with breakfast and dinner (for overseas choirs only) - $400 CAD
Option #2 Hotels/Motels (double occupancy) with breakfast and dinner - $940 CAD
Option #3 Hotels/Motels (children - four to a room) with breakfast and dinner - $720 CAD

Three Day Tours

Option #1 Home stays usually with breakfast and dinner (for overseas choirs only) - $325 CAD
Option #2 Hotels/Motels (double occupancy) with breakfast and dinner - $760CAD
Option #3 Hotels/Motels (children - four to a room) with breakfast and dinner - $580 CAD
